Not Another Gallery! And David Craig Ellis Launch “Yard Sale” — A Summer Solo Show And 1970s Rock-And-Roll Art Frenzy In Brooklyn

Artist, gallery owner and overall New York fixture of chaos and culture David Craig Ellis hosts a “Yard Sale” at Not Another Gallery! this summer in Brooklyn. But this is not your typical yard sale. From June 1-July 31, Ellis and Not Another Gallery will be hosting an event that Ellis describes as part installation, part chaotic thrift store and overall celebration of 1970s rock-and-roll culture, raw creativity and punk era-DIY energy.

Ellis says this is his most explosive solo exhibition to date. The Canadian-born artist has been a part of the rock-and-roll scene in New York City since the 1990s. And he’s collected a few things along the way over that time. Some of those collectibles will be up for grabs at the yard sale. Customers can expect to find over 200 original paintings by Ellis, along with prints, t-shirts, hoodies, totes, backpacks, books and posters. There will also be a collection of used clothing for sale. There will also be a raffle, large art installations, an Italian cookie tower sculpture as well as pieces from the artist’s recent STARFKRS Conceptual Installation.

Just like yard sales of yore, Ellis says that everything is up for grabs and has to go. “Everything must go.” It’s more than a slogan—it’s a state of mind. From high art to lowbrow ephemera, Ellis invites the public into his world of painted chaos, personal history, and wild reinvention,” he says. The idea came about on a whim for the artist when thinking of a summer-centric way to celebrate art and eccentricity. “I wanted to do something down to earth, the opposite of the hoity-toity summer shows in Chelsea. I wanted something that helps define Summer, like an ice cream cone or a lemonade stand. Plus, I have a huge array of items on display, not just boring old paintings.”

Guests can even participate in Ellis’ Post Card Program (PCP). The PCP replaces an email or a text with a hand written post card. The artist supplies the post card and a global stamp and mails it out for the customer. He says tourists love it because they knock it out without having to think about it. “At the same time I love attempting to revive snail mail.”

The preview party kicks off Friday, June 13. There will be free wine and coffee and cake by Sweethaze Cakes. Not Another Gallery! is located at 109 Broadway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Admission is free.
